良いものを長く使う
Treasuring what is made to last
When Odate Kougeisha was founded in 1959, its mission was to "create fine products that bring joy to our customers."
The greatest charm of Odate Kougeisha’s magewappa lies in the fact that, with proper care, it can be used for many years.
"Using good things for a long time" is the motto that Odate Kougeisha has cherished since its beginning.
This traditional Japanese vessel is handcrafted one by one by artisans in Odate City, Akita Prefecture, known for their meticulous craftsmanship and exceptional product quality.
The more you use it, the more the warmth and depth of the wood grow, developing a unique and beautiful character over time.

職人による丁寧な製造
Careful craftsmanship by skilled artisans
For the magewappa, only the most beautiful straight-grained (masame) sections of cedar wood are selected.
These straight-grain pieces are shaved thin, softened in hot water, and quickly bent around a mold before being dried.
Once dried, the bent wood is stitched together with cherry bark, the base is fitted seamlessly without even the slightest gap, and the surface is carefully sanded to perfection.

多数のグッドデザイン賞を受賞
Multiple Good Design Awards
Many of Odate Kougeisha’s products have received the Good Design Award, recognized for designs that highlight the natural beauty of magewappa.
Several bento boxes have been honored with the Long Life Design Award, which is given to products and services that have been continuously offered and loved by customers for over ten years.

伝統工芸士の高い技術
Highly skilled Dento Kogei-shi
Craftsmen who have been engaged in production for over 12 years and possess advanced techniques are eligible to take the certification exam to become Dento Kogei-shi (Traditional Craft Artisans). Those who pass the exam are officially recognized with this title.
At Odate Kougeisha, five artisans have been certified as Dento Kogei-shi.
In addition, five craftsmen with more than six years of experience and proven mastery of fundamental techniques have been recognized as Akita Prefecture Mirai no Kogei-shi ("Future Traditional Artisans of Akita Prefecture").
Together, Odate Kougeisha employs the largest number of certified artisans in Odate City.
